Molly O'Meara has been a devoted Red Flower customer for nearly 15 years — long before she stocked the bathrooms of her own spa with Red Flower washes and lotions, and long before she opened MOA Derma Lounge, her private medical aesthetics practice built entirely around intentional sensory experience. A licensed aesthetician and certified laser technician with 22 years in the industry, Molly came to this work the way many do: through her own skin struggle, and the life-changing moment she discovered what aestheticians could do. What she has built since is a reflection of everything she wishes she'd had — a space that feels grounding, unhurried, and deeply personal.

RF: What first inspired you to pursue a career in the spa and wellness industry?
MO: My struggle with acne as a young teen made me very aware of skincare and the impact it has on self-confidence. After years of unsuccessful prescription medications from dermatologists, I discovered what aestheticians do and it changed everything. I decided at 17 that I had to be an aesthetician.
RF: How has your philosophy on wellness evolved over the years?
MO: Wellness isn't just about treatments and products. It's as much about relationships and experiences. The most important thing is that my clients feel cared for. Listened to. Unrushed. I don't think true wellness can exist without those things.
RF: What challenges have you faced as a woman in this industry, and how have you overcome them?
MO: I worked in corporate healthcare all of my 20s. It was a male dominant environment and could be undermining or dismissive at times. What worked for me was ignoring that I was a young woman in a room full of older men. I assumed my seat at the table with them. Not everyone will treat you with respect, but it's important that you demand it no matter what.
RF: What advice would you give to women aspiring to leadership roles in the spa and wellness space?
MO: Just go for it. Whatever it is that you want to achieve, treat it like there is absolutely no other option. I've found that mindset to be incredibly powerful. Don't get tripped up or discouraged by overthinking — it's easy to get overwhelmed. Action alleviates anxiety. And finally, don't be afraid to ask for what you want. Closed mouths don't get fed.
RF: What are your favorite Red Flower rituals for self-care?
MO: Scent is big for me. I love having a petal-topped candle lit in whatever room I'm in.
RF: Is there a particular Red Flower product, scent, or ritual that resonates with you most? If so, why?
MO: Moroccan Rose. Roses are my favorite flower and I love the scent. The Moroccan Rose petal topped candle has been my favorite for probably 15 years.
RF: What trends are currently exciting you in the wellness space?
MO: I don't pay much attention to trends. But I am happy to see that things like nutrition and hormones are being given more attention in the skincare space. And thanks to the rise in GLP-1 related weight loss, there's an increased demand for solutions to lax skin and volume loss — creating options beyond surgery or injectables. There are finally topicals and non-invasive treatments that actually work. It's a pretty exciting time in skincare.
RF: How do you approach creating an immersive and memorable spa experience for guests?

MO: Each sense has an intentional experience at MOA. Scent: a lit candle and aromatherapy diffusers in each room — I custom blend essential oils to create a unique scent for each space. Sound: music in each room with playlists that set the tone, plus strategically placed white noise machines for a calming effect. Sight: lots of floor lamps and adjustable lighting, over 20 live plants in the lounge, fresh florals every week, gemstones and crystals scattered throughout, and a nature-inspired color scheme of sage, olive, and chocolate brown. Taste: fresh lemon water, tea or coffee, mints and chocolates always set out. Touch: everything the client feels is soft and luxe — from the rugs to the linens and blankets, with Red Flower washes and body lotions in the shower and bathroom for clients to enjoy. And then there are the little touches: the changing area and bathroom are stocked with hair ties, disposable combs, floss, mints, cleansing wipes, tampons, dry shampoo, and deodorant. Every detail is considered.
RF: What is one wellness practice you believe more people should incorporate into their daily lives?
MO: Slower mornings — it's a game-changer. Making a healthy breakfast and sitting down to enjoy it. Doing some good stretching or exercise, even just 10 minutes. I wake up earlier than I need to so I can have a more leisurely morning as I get ready. It sets the tone for the day.
RF: How do you personally recharge and maintain balance in your life?
MO: Slow mornings make all the difference. And I have a bit of a commute — usually a 30-plus minute drive — which I actually love. I sip on coffee or tea and listen to a podcast. It gives me time to focus and be still. I was also very intentional about making MOA a space that just makes you want to stay. It feels grounding and calm. I never feel like I need to go home to escape. One thing I recently started is not scheduling anything on my days off. I found that Mondays had become a blur of errands and appointments. Now I schedule those things on a work day and protect my time off. It's important to remember that we are in control of our time and how we spend it.
RF: Can you share a book, podcast, or mentor that has had a significant impact on your career?
MO: I'm always listening to an industry, business, or finance podcast when I'm not in the treatment room. A few of my go-tos: Aspire with Emma Greede, BigDeal with Codie Sanchez, The Mel Robbins Podcast, A Bit of Optimism, The School of Greatness, Scaling Beautifully, and Esthetician Podcast.
RF: What self-care rituals do you prioritize in your daily routine?
MO: Slow mornings, and never skipping my supplements and morning and night skincare routine. I also listen to the same song every morning while I make breakfast — and I dance. It seems silly but movement is really important, and it just naturally puts me in a good mood.
