Anything that transforms a task to a decadent escape, I will try. Maybe it's the natural procrastinator in me, or just my pleasure-speaking nature to be on a continuous sensorial quest. Please make my hair smell terrific.

I have long hair for most of my life - a combination fraught with issues. Dry, over-treated, split-ends - a lifetime of being there for me in good energy - I am grateful I got here with my long locks in tow. One bad haircut when I turned ten (Dorothy Hamill with my round features was a bust) and followed by a mullet (I was reading and only saw the results when I looked up - nothing like going to Paris looking the part), I wish I had pictures - you would know why I never wanted to cut my hair again. There is a list of long hair goddesses who have made it this far with their tresses intact.
While my hair has its own story to tell, here are the things that help it stay luscious and full of life.
Washing and conditioning with ingredients that cleanse without stripping and rehydrate and moisturize without weighing down - great natural hair care is a science and an art, and at Red Flower we worked (selfishly) on the ultimate formulation. A lather without sulfates that is gentle and color-safe, a conditioner that acts as a restorative treatment for tangles and split ends.
(Tangles are my story - my hair is so fine and wavy that it seems its goal is to entwine itself. My mom had this tool called a “purr” which she used to comb out my hair as a child - I was terrified of that thing - “roar” would be a better name) so conditioner is my best friend, and has to deliver like no other beauty product. I apply it to damp, not soaking wet, freshly washed hair from the ends to the scalp and leave it on for a few seconds (or minutes as time and hot running water allow) and it immediately detangles, adds luster and shine, and says, "okay I can do this."
But those are just the fundamentals. Where does the fun come in, and how is this hair washing experience transformed from a task to a luxury? How does it fill a craving and become a new worldview?

One word - scent.
This hair wash and conditioner combination perfumes your hair because essential oils bind to the hair follicles differently from the skin and it lasts so much longer without being overwhelming. Red Flower thinks about hair care both from its benefits and the sensory delivery. Hair is the energy; hair that is scented adds to a feeling of beauty, an act of self-expression that turns on another zone of empowerment, presence and potential. It is for you, and it is also an entrance, a gesture of new things to come.
Here is what I use when and why.
Aromatherapy as hair care. Hair care as perfume.

How does the power of touch and scalp massage enhance the benefits of Red Flower hair care?
Fingertips are the massage therapy powerhouse - what happens when you apply massage techniques over your scalp while washing your hair? Standing in the shower, the head tilted back under warm running water is already relaxing, add the gentle Red Flower hair wash lather and the invigorating pressure from the thumbs and fingertips and a sensation of letting go takes over, eyes closed, circular motions that cleanse and improve blood flow and circulation. Pressure on areas of tension from the thumbs such as on on the back of the neck, moving up toward the ears also relaxes muscle tension. Notably this stimulating techniques also helps improve hair follicle strength and health for improved hair strength, shine and growth.

Red Flower Hydrating Hair Wash creates a rich, velvety, sulfate free lather through a few simple steps:
-
Soak strands: Wet hair thoroughly under running water.
-
Start at the back: Using 1-2 pumps of Hydrating Hair Wash, apply first to the ends of the hair and the back of the scalp.
-
Bring it forward: Work the lather toward the front of the hair, massaging coconut oil, coconut glycerin, and panthenol pro-vitamin B5 over strands and scalp.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with warm or cool water.
To cultivate maximum softness with Red Flower Smoothing Conditioner:
-
Start with the ends: Apply 1-2 pumps to ends and work conditioner upward toward the scalp.
-
Leave it in: while cleansing the body, leave conditioner in hair to allow olive fruit oil and jojoba oil time to soften strands, seal in moisture, and restore shine.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with warm or cool water. If desired, a small amount of conditioner can be left in the hair to further hydrate and soften.
