red flower (RF):
What is the one piece of advice your mother gave you that has been been the most valuable over time?

Alexia Brue (Alexia):
”My grandmother always had a lot more skincare advice than my mother. She was a huge advocate of staying out of the sun and using gentle cleansers. She also told me to take care of my neck,
along with my face, from the age of 8 on.”

red flower (RF):
What is the right age to start talking to your children about skincare and self care?

Alexia:
”My daughter is only three so her self-care regimen consists of brushing her teeth and wearing sunscreen, which she hates to apply. She really wants to do whatever I'm doing--for example she loves putting on RMS luminizer together--so instead of conversations, she'll likely learn standing next to me at the sink.”

”Man does she hate sunscreen and I'm trying so hard to get her to wear it every day. We all know she'll thank me in thirty years :)” - Alexia

red flower (RF):
What do you and your daughter do together everyday that you both look forward to?

Alexia:
”A big good morning hug and kiss.”

RF:
How do you define and talk about “empowered” beauty with your daughter (taking care of yourself vs. vanity)? How do you empower them to feel beautiful every day?

Alexia:
”My daughter has curly hair and when she was having her school picture taken recently, they kept trying to flatten her hair and she came home feeling bad about her curls. We talked about how beautiful her hair is and how she doesn't have to push it down.”

RF:
Any favorite products that are ageless that you both use?

Alexia:
RMS Luminizer. It's such a clean product so I feel fine about Thea using it.”

RF:
Do you have any techniques or DIY practices you would be willing to share? And if so, do you consider this a tradition from your mother or something new that will hopefully be passed on?

Alexia:
Drinking a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning. I also add aloe to my smoothies for glowing skin. I hope to pass on good veggie-heavy eating habits to my daughter. We're off to a slow start, but I'm optimistic!”
